Walking into the Oak Park Conservatory, you’ll be greeted with a waft of floral aroma. Take your pick of destination between three showrooms: Mediterranean, Tropical and Desert. This “hidden oasis” is filled with various ecosystems including native Illinois grasses. The conservatory also leads guided tours by trained docents for $5 for adults, $3 for seniors, and $2 for children under 12. Visit their website for more information and to make tour arrangements.

Speaking of blooming, Wednesday, March 14 – Sunday, March 18, is the annual Chicago Flower & Garden Show. This year’s theme “FLOWERTALES: Every Garden Has a Story to Tell,” showcases the connection between the, “roles flowers, plants and gardens play in the stories of our lives and literature.”  Offering over 20 life-sized gardens, seminars, DIY workshops and a unique marketplace – this event is a can’t miss! There are many ways to attend this year’s show, whether it is a one day pass, weekend trip, or if you prefer to see a preview a bit earlier, “Evening in Bloom.” On Tuesday, March 13 from 6-9:30 pm you can spend an evening filled with cocktails, hors d’oeurves, and musical entertainment, getting a behind the scenes ‘sneak peek’ at the show.
